Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

The 3.048 m example runs use 16 mm², with 50 A protection at the starter-battery positive and 40 A at the house-battery positive. These choices follow Table 1 for the VCC 1212-30 CI, article 3360. Select the appropriate standard, EBL or existing-relay wiring scheme and configure charging and D+ control from the manual; the example does not simulate those controls. Which VCC version is this?

This is VCC 1212-30 CI, article 3360, not the earlier 3324 VCC 1212-30. The current manufacturer specification identifies a non-isolated 12 V booster with 30 A maximum output, a 20 A limit setting and 39 A maximum input.

How are power and protection arranged?

START + / IN − connect to the starter supply; BORD + / OUT − connect to the house system. The negatives are not galvanically isolated. If a shunt is fitted, bring system returns to its system side. Manual page 2 specifies 50 A input and 40 A output fuses, with 6, 10 or 16 mm² conductors according to its length table. Power-terminal torque is 1.2 Nm, small control terminals 0.5 Nm.

What must be configured?

Select the house-battery program before charging and install the supplied temperature sensor. D+ permits engine-controlled activation; leaving D+ open invokes voltage-based activation. Use the manual’s EBL/EVS diagram when integrating an existing electrical block: the extra starter-sensing terminal is not another high-current charger output.

What should commissioning prove?

Mount near the house bank with 10 cm clear ventilation space. Confirm charging starts with the intended engine signal and stops appropriately. Check battery-terminal voltage under load as well as indicator lights. The manual describes a small reverse maintenance-charge path, which some EBL configurations disable. Its behavior and lithium low-temperature handling must be checked against the CI instructions rather than an older VCC manual.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add VCC 1212-30 CI (3360) to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 20 ft total of 6 AWG (16 mm²) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 6 AWG cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 40 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
