Wire
13 AWG · 2.5 mm²
Example fuse

Design current
6 A
Voltage drop

Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

This 12 V example uses the manual's 15 A fuse and 1 m conductors each way. The complete 2 m circuit is within the 2.5 m table entry for 2.5 mm². Recheck the cable table for longer runs. The 24 V version requires different protection; compressor cycling and startup are not a constant daily load. Manufacturer installation manual

Which Cruise 65 and what does the energy figure mean?

This entry covers the Cruise 65 Elegance DC refrigerator, identified as CR65EL in the technical table, PDF page 25 / printed page 52. It is rated 6 A at 12 V or 3 A at 24 V, 72 W. Its 275 Wh/day figure is a test at 25°C ambient and +5°C cabinet temperature; it is not a fixed daily consumption in every installation. The catalog's adjustable running hours are a planning assumption.

This scope excludes optional AC power equipment and optional energy-control accessories. Match the full appliance label and fitted controller to the manual before wiring an upgraded unit.

What protection and wiring are specified?

The DC instructions, PDF page 22 / printed 49, require 15 A supply protection at 12 V or 7.5 A at 24 V. Red is positive and black is negative. Use a suitable two-pole isolating switch and avoid a long path through the vehicle control panel that introduces voltage drop. Connect a battery charger to the battery, rather than directly to the refrigerator.

The cable table, PDF page 23 / printed 50, pairs 2.5/4/6/10 mm² conductors with maximum 12 V cable lengths of 2.5/4/6/10 m for the BD1.4F/BD35F/BD50F controller group; the 24 V lengths are 5/8/12/20 m. Confirm the fitted compressor group and the manufacturer's length convention, then check conductor ampacity and total voltage drop for the actual route.

How does the cabinet fit affect performance?

The installation and ventilation guidance, PDF pages 20–21, requires the refrigerator to rest on its support feet and be secured against movement. Keep a path for cool air to enter below the condenser and warm air to escape above or to the sides. Elegance Easy Fix mounting can allow a flush installation, but the door still needs the stated clearance to move freely. Do not use cabinet trim to block the condenser's air path.

How should faults and storage be handled?

Check voltage at the refrigerator during a compressor start, not only at the battery. Loose connections, a restricted condenser or an incorrectly fitted door seal can produce similar poor-cooling symptoms. Use the fault table, PDF pages 26–29, to distinguish supply, fan and compressor faults. For storage, disconnect power, clean and dry the compartment and leave the door ajar; avoid sharp tools when defrosting.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add Cruise 65 Elegance to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.6 ft total of 13 AWG (2.5 mm²) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 13 AWG cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 15 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
