Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Reviewed against manufacturer family documentation (rev. REICH generic submersible pump operating instruction; exact Tandem product page), checked 2026-10-01. Exact variant details still require confirmation. Manufacturer documentation →

Which Tandem pump is represented?

The REICH product listing identifies 515-1914121R as a 12 V, 55 W Tandem pump with 19 L/min maximum flow and 1.4 bar maximum pressure, a 1 m cable and an 80 mm minimum tank opening. Flow and pressure maxima do not imply both occur simultaneously at the tap. The catalog calculates nominal input current as 55 W / 12 V, approximately 4.58 A; startup current remains unpublished.

The downloaded REICH operating instruction is a manufacturer-authored, generic submersible-pump sheet. It does not name 515-1914121R, so model-specific installation requirements still need checking against the supplied pump documentation.

How should it be wired and switched?

The family instruction identifies brown as positive and blue as negative. Reversed polarity can still produce water flow, but with reduced performance, so pumping is not proof of correct wiring. The pump can be controlled by a tap switch, pressure switch or push-button arrangement. Match the switching equipment to the real motor load and starting demand; use an intermediate relay where the selected control requires one.

Neither the exact product page nor the reviewed family sheet gives a supply-fuse rating or a startup/stall current. Do not treat 55 W as a complete motor-circuit design. The catalog's nominal current envelope is calculated, not a tested surge or a connector rating.

What supply-voltage limit needs resolving?

The family sheet states 12 V DC and no more than 14 V. Many vehicle charging systems exceed 14 V, so confirm the applicable limit for the delivered 515-1914121R before connecting it directly to that bus. This older generic instruction is a reason to verify the installation, not evidence that every current Tandem variant tolerates a higher charging voltage.

How should the water installation be maintained?

Keep the pump submerged during use, with its intake clear of debris and its cable protected at the tank entry. The seal may tolerate a brief dry interval, but extended dry running is not permitted normal operation. If flow falls, inspect intake contamination, the hose and tap restrictions, trapped air, polarity and supply voltage under load. Remove and drain the pump when freezing is possible; draining only the tap can leave water inside the pump. The family sheet describes cleaning and an intake filter as ways to reduce debris-related faults.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add Tandem 515-1914121R to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
