The catalog item includes the controller

The Rutland 1200 turbine produces three-phase power and requires its Hybrid MPPT Controller. The battery terminals shown here belong to that 12 V turbine/controller bundle. They must not be used to connect the bare turbine directly to a battery. The controller's two battery outputs and optional PV input have distinct roles. Neither the 35 A wind-only cable-table value nor the 55 A wind-plus-solar value establishes continuous wind generation. See system diagrams and cable tables, PDF p. 2.

Install the turbine and its cable

The turbine instructions require suitable mounting geometry and clearance for its 1,220 mm rotor. The controller table calls for 2.5 mm² turbine cable up to 5 m in a 12 V installation, increasing for longer routes. These three phase conductors are inside the catalog bundle boundary; their physical cable still needs to be installed and secured. Refer to turbine mounting, PDF p. 1 before designing the pole or arch.

Respect the battery connection restrictions

For wind only, the controller table specifies 6 mm² battery conductors within 1.5 m and a minimum 175 Ah C20 bank; additional solar changes the requirements. Marlec explicitly prohibits switches, relays, VSRs and fuses in these battery cables, relying on the controller's internal protection. Battery 1 must remain connected while generating. This restriction requires a complete manufacturer-specific protection layout; a generic fused source example is not appropriate. Never disconnect a running turbine from its controller/battery arrangement.

Connect and stop in the prescribed order

Connect Battery 2 before Battery 1 if both are used. Verify polarity and charging settings before starting. The controller has separate WG and PV stop controls; stop both and confirm their solid-red indications before battery disconnection. Optional solar must remain within 20 A and 50 V cold open-circuit voltage. Restart uses the documented three-second button actions. Check real charging under suitable wind rather than interpreting a controller or cable limit as generated current. See startup and shutdown sequence, PDF p. 1.
