What it does

Charges a house battery from the vehicle's alternator circuit at up to 50 A, with input and output current limits you set in VictronConnect. It is non-isolated (input and output share a negative), and at around 98.5% efficiency it runs without a fan.

Wiring it

The input side comes from the starter battery or alternator feed; the output side goes to the house bank. Both legs carry real current, so both get sized and fused — not just the output. Engine-run detection works from the input voltage, so no ignition-trigger wire is required in the common case.

What people get wrong

Sizing the input wiring for the 50 A output. A DC-DC charger is not lossless and its input voltage can sit below its output voltage while charging, so the input side draws more than 50 A — around 60 A at full load. Victron's manual calls for a 60–70 A fuse on the input; an input leg wired at 50 A runs hot and nuisance-blows.
