Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is a catalog planning estimate for inverter operation at nominal battery voltage, not a measured draw. Actual current changes with load, battery voltage and efficiency. Check the exact model's cable, fuse and installation requirements. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

The DC example uses Renogy's 250 A battery fuse. Its 196.1 A design demand is calculated from 2000 W at 12 V and 85% efficiency, not a measured draw. Lower battery voltage increases demand. Check actual cable length, battery/BMS capability, DC connections and the manual's installation requirements; AC outlets, protective earth and appliance starting loads need separate review. What does this P2 provide?

The US P2 2000 W produces 115 V / 60 Hz AC from a 12 V battery and offers a 4000 W, one-second AC surge. It has no charger or shore-transfer input. Do not use wiring instructions for Renogy’s PUH/UPS or inverter-charger models.

Which current does the planner use?

Manual pages 29–30 list 166.6 A battery current, exactly 2000 W ÷ 12 V, while separately specifying greater than 85% full-load efficiency. That current row omits conversion losses. The catalog therefore uses a labeled 196.1 A planning estimate: 2000 ÷ (12 × 0.85). Actual current depends on battery voltage and load; lower voltage requires more current. No independent terminal ampacity or DC surge is inferred from the fuse.

What connections and protection are needed?

Connect the battery through an external disconnect and the manual’s 250 A battery fuse, checking conductor ampacity and route. Printed page 21 gives 14 ±0.5 Nm at the DC terminals. Connect the chassis grounding point and wire AC loads only to the AC output; receptacles and terminal-block loads share the same total rating.

How is it started and checked?

Start with AC loads switched off, energize the inverter, then add loads while checking battery voltage at its terminals. Set the switch to REM when using the wired remote. A low-voltage alarm under load can indicate cable drop even when resting battery voltage looks healthy. Keep ventilation clear and isolate both sides before servicing: the off switch does not discharge internal capacitors immediately.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add RNG-INVT-2000-12V-P2-US to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 20 ft total of 2/0 AWG (70 mm²) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 2/0 AWG cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 250 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
