Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Use 10 A TIME-DELAY fuse. SHURflo installation manual 911-564 specifies minimum 2.5 mm² supply and a switch rated at least 15 A, with larger cable on longer runs. Red + / black −; thermal overload resets automatically. Manufacturer installation manual

Guidance for this model, with sources linked beside the relevant advice.

Verified against the manufacturer's documentation (rev. 2095-204-112 / aftermarket 2095-204-412 product sheet, August 2001; installation manual 911-564), checked 2026-10-01. Manufacturer documentation →

Which Trail King pump is covered?

This is the 12 V Trail King 7, aftermarket 2095-204-412, corresponding to OEM 2095-204-112 on the manufacturer sheet. It is an intermittent-duty demand pump. The performance table, page 2, gives typical draw of 1.5 A at unrestricted flow and 3.3 A at 1.4 bar. The catalog uses the upper tabulated operating value; the sheet does not establish locked-rotor or startup current.

How are its leads connected?

The electrical block, page 1, identifies 16 AWG factory leads, red positive and black negative. Supply it through an accessible pump switch and the specified protection. The built-in pressure switch controls demand operation; it is not a substitute for a supply isolator during maintenance. Factory lead gauge must not be mistaken for the required gauge of an arbitrarily long extension.

Which protection and cable apply?

SHURflo recommends a 10 A time-delay fuse for this model. The manufacturer installation manual 911-564, mirrored Italian pages, PDF page 2, specifies a dedicated circuit, a switch rated at least 15 A, matching positive and negative conductor sizes, and minimum 2.5 mm² supply wiring. Its longer-route guidance increases that size. The short example retains 2.5 mm² and 10 A time-delay protection. The fuse rating is not the pump's running load.

What operating limits need attention?

The pump's thermal overload automatically resets: a stopped hot pump can restart while power remains connected. The product sheet permits water up to 54 °C, lists 1/2-inch NPSM male ports, and gives a 20 ±5 psi shutoff setting. Use flexible hose and a suitable inlet strainer; secure the pump in a dry accessible location with ventilation.

What does commissioning involve?

Fill and purge the system, inspect for leaks, then verify reliable starts and shutoff as taps open and close. Rapid cycling calls for investigation of restrictions and plumbing, not repeated pressure-switch adjustment. Isolate the electrical feed before touching the pump and drain or winterize the water system according to the installation instructions.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add 2095-204-412 to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.6 ft total of 13 AWG (2.5 mm²) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 13 AWG cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 10 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
