About this terminal map

Opening this part in Crimp starts a new project with the equipment placed on its own. Use the manufacturer documentation to plan its AC connections and protective devices.

The map identifies line, neutral and protective-earth connections. This page does not calculate an AC cable size or protection rating.

What does this panel protect?

The 8100 panel is a 120 V AC, 30 A double-pole shore main with 30 mA leakage trip. It monitors imbalance between current leaving and returning through the AC circuit. It is not a DC breaker, an AC source selector, or a substitute for required branch-circuit GFCI protection.

How are line, neutral and earth routed?

Connect the shore supply to LINE and the vessel distribution to LOAD, maintaining separate line and neutral poles. Protective earth remains continuous through the grounding bus; never join it to the downstream neutral bus. Panel instructions explain the distinction. Reverse line/load connections or another supply backfeeding LOAD can damage the ELCI.

Where should it be installed?

The manufacturer places the main disconnect within 10 ft of the inlet measured along the conductors; longer runs require additional inlet-side protection. Its 30 A feeder recommendation is 10 AWG under the documented installation conditions. Protect front and rear from water. The panel is not ignition protected and must not be installed where explosive vapors accumulate.

How is protection verified?

With power present, turn it on and operate TEST. The ELCI bulletin requires a monthly trip test and replacement if the test fails to open the breaker. If it trips in service, disconnect branch loads and identify the circuit causing imbalance rather than bypassing protection. Check reverse-polarity indication before accepting shore power. Keep all alternative AC sources isolated during installation or fault investigation.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add 8100 to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. A lug or terminal to match each post on the part
  2. Strain relief and boots so nothing chafes or shorts
  3. Cable and fuses sized once the whole system is drawn

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
