Cable sizing for this example

Use the diagram as a starting point for your installation. Replace the example equipment and cable lengths with your own, and check the connections against your exact model's instructions.

Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the unit's rated output. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

This example shows one 10 A charging bank and preserves the supplied 15 A DC lead protection. The second charging bank is independent. The generic drawn cable length is a planning assumption, not the length or a replacement specification for NOCO's supplied leads; follow its extension and connection instructions. Configure each bank for its own battery chemistry. Manufacturer installation manual

How is its 20 A output divided?

The GENPRO10X2 specification provides two isolated 12 V banks at 10 A each, not one 20 A output. Each bank has its own mode selection and positive/negative lead pair. The catalog records 20 A total with a 10 A limit on each bank; the cable example shows one bank. The AC supply is 120–240 V, 50–60 Hz; do not connect DC batteries to the AC pins.

How are the battery leads connected?

Keep each red/black pair with its intended battery. The supplied DC leads are 14 AWG, with 15 A mini-blade fuses; these fuse values are protection, not charging demand. Follow the user guide for the battery/vehicle grounding arrangement, connect the battery leads before AC, and isolate AC before rearranging batteries. Do not join the two bank outputs merely to obtain more current.

Which mode should be selected?

Set each bank independently for standard 12 V lead-acid, AGM or lithium. Lithium mode requires a battery with a BMS. Repair mode is for appropriate lead-acid batteries and can expose connected equipment to elevated voltage; remove incompatible loads first. Force mode bypasses normal low-voltage detection and should not be a routine response to an unexplained fault.

What should you check if it stays in standby?

Confirm the selected mode, correct polarity, intact inline fuse and sound eyelet connections, then measure battery voltage. The support guide distinguishes standby/low-voltage detection from reverse polarity, excessive voltage and battery failure. IP68 does not remove the need to keep the AC connection safe and dry or to provide a secure, cooled mounting position.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add GENPRO10X2 to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.1 m total of 4 mm² (11 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 4 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 15 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11. Boats built to UK or EU rules answer to ISO 13297 — check these figures against it before you build. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
