Connection and installation overview

The StandBy-Charger Pro requires its EN input to be driven as shown in the manual; DIS overrides that permission. Select the output voltage before connecting the destination battery, and include both banks’ protection and the complete enable wiring. A four-power-wire example would omit a required connection.

Manual PDF 2 specifies 15 A input and 10 A output fuses. 2.5 mm² permits 4.6 m total input and 7 m total output; 1 m each way fits. Set output voltage before connecting destination; EN required, DIS overrides. Manufacturer installation manual

A configurable maintenance charger

StandBy-Charger Pro moves energy from one 12 V battery to another at up to 8 A output, with input draw up to 12 A. Both banks must be nominally 12 V; it is not a 24 V converter. Set the output voltage and input cutoff to suit the actual batteries and their BMS requirements. Its adjustable 12.5–14.5 V output must not be assumed suitable merely because a battery is sold as lithium. See ratings, PDF p. 1.

Connect both power pairs and enable

IN+ and IN− connect to the source bank; OUT+ and OUT− connect to the maintained bank. EN enables charging when supplied with the permitted 12 V control signal, or with the documented IN+-to-EN bridge. DIS overrides EN; connecting the vehicle D+ signal here can stop this charger while the alternator is charging the destination bank. The control terminals do not carry the charging output.

Protect and size each side

The manufacturer's cable table specifies a 15 A input fuse and 10 A output fuse. With 2.5 mm² wire, the maximum combined positive-plus-negative lengths are 4.6 m input and 7 m output. A one-metre positive and one-metre negative run on each side fits both limits. The removable screw terminals accept 1–4 mm² installation cable, stripped 6 mm and tightened to 0.5 Nm. The manual recommends stranded wire without ferrules for these terminals. See wiring and cable table, PDF p. 2 and terminal data, PDF p. 6.

Adjust before connecting the destination

Connect the input battery first. Set the input cutoff, enable the device, and adjust output voltage while measuring the unloaded output. Only then connect the output battery. Verify that DIS stops charging and that input undervoltage prevents unwanted discharge of the source bank. Recheck voltage at the destination battery under load; excessive cable drop can leave maintenance charging incomplete. See commissioning, PDF p. 3.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add StandBy-Charger Pro 3063 to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. A lug or terminal to match each post on the part
  2. Strain relief and boots so nothing chafes or shorts
  3. Cable and fuses sized once the whole system is drawn

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
