Use the ISO variant’s power arrangement

NGW-1-ISO converts supported NMEA 0183 sentences and NMEA 2000 PGNs. This is the ISO cable version, not NGW-1-USB: its operating supply comes from a powered NMEA 2000 backbone. The manual specifies 35 mA at 12 V, maximum 50 mA and LEN 1. Add that demand to the network power budget. The gateway’s internal 9.5–35 V tolerance does not authorize running other NMEA 2000 equipment from a 24 V boat bank.

Wire talker to listener, not color to color

On the ISO/0183 cable, red is IN A/+ and black IN B/−, accepting the other device’s talker output. White is OUT A/+ and blue OUT B/−, feeding its listener input. The cable’s shield/screen is marked ISO GND and is left unconnected in the standard device-to-device diagram. These red and black wires are signal inputs, not battery leads. Check A/B labels at both devices, since naming and colors differ between manufacturers.

Build the backbone before commissioning conversions

Connect the Micro-C drop to a correctly powered and terminated NMEA 2000 network. Use a compatible adapter if the vessel has a proprietary connector system. Do not attach loose battery leads to the 0183 interface. The symbol intentionally offers data connector markers rather than standalone DC terminals; it cannot calculate power delivery inside a NMEA backbone. Protect and size the backbone feed for all connected devices.

Choose conversions and verify both directions

Match the 0183 baud rate and enable only the sentences/PGNs required by the connected equipment. Actisense Toolkit configures supported firmware; confirm the actual firmware and conversion list before promising an instrument value will translate. A flashing receive indicator proves incoming traffic, not that a matching conversion is enabled or received by the destination. If one direction fails, check the source’s talker pair, destination’s listener pair, baud rate and conversion settings in that order.

Manual and scope

Actisense installation manual, User Manual v3.2; pp. 4–6 for power and wiring, pp. 8–11 configuration, p. 12 specifications. The original PDF is retained in the marine source ledger. The drawing represents the identified electrical interfaces; it does not simulate the equipment’s mechanical performance, radio signals or fluid system. Unpublished connector ampacity and startup current remain unspecified.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add NGW-1-ISO to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. A lug or terminal to match each post on the part
  2. Strain relief and boots so nothing chafes or shorts
  3. Cable and fuses sized once the whole system is drawn

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11. Boats built to UK or EU rules answer to ISO 13297 — check these figures against it before you build. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
