Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Normal 30 W = 2.5 A at 12 V; 12/24 V centre-positive input. Retain supplied DC lead and any factory lead protection. The manual gives no numeric battery-fuse or extension gauge; 3.3 A is the mains adapter capacity, not a branch-fuse specification. Manufacturer installation manual

Which television and power figures are covered?

This entry is the 21.5-inch W215TS, one of three sizes in the WTS manual. Use the 21.5-inch specification table, page 28: normal power is 30 W and standby is below 0.5 W. The catalog's 2.5 A is calculated as 30 W / 12 V; it is not a measured maximum under every picture setting or attached accessory load. The 19.5-inch and 24-inch tables have different values.

Where does the DC supply connect?

The rear-connector drawing, page 10, labels connector 5 as the 12/24 V DC input and shows the centre-positive polarity symbol. The catalog positive pole represents that centre contact and the negative pole its outer return. Retain the appropriate supplied DC lead and check the unit's marking before connecting a replacement. HDMI, USB, RF and satellite sockets are not alternative battery-power inputs.

What does the mains adapter rating mean?

The supplied adapter accepts 100–240 V AC and outputs 12 V at up to 3.3 A. Its 3.3 A capacity is not a manufacturer specification for the vehicle's branch fuse or proof of an independent connector rating. The reviewed manual does not prescribe a universal battery-fuse value or extension gauge. Protect the actual supply cable at its source, retain any protection in the factory lead, and verify voltage at the television under load.

How should the screen be installed?

Secure the television and support as instructed, provide ventilation, and keep the connections dry. The specification lists a +5 to +35 °C operating range. Leave service access and cable slack without placing strain on the DC jack. Position the screen and its cables so that vehicle motion cannot damage them or obstruct the living space.

What is checked before regular use?

Test operation on the intended DC source, confirm that picture and sound remain stable, and check the selected aerial or satellite input separately from network streaming. Changing brightness and energy-saving settings affects consumption. Standby is still a load, so use a suitable upstream isolator for storage if required, after the television has shut down normally. Investigate resets by checking the socket, lead and loaded supply voltage before replacing the television.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add W215TS to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 2 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 5 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11. Boats built to UK or EU rules answer to ISO 13297 — check these figures against it before you build. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
