Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Exact manufacturer fuse is 1.25 A per X4. Supply wiring and switching for multiple lights must account for their combined load. Manufacturer installation manual

Choose the single-colour X4 wiring

This entry covers the Ultra White X4, not the larger X8/X16 or an RGBW installation. The manual gives 0.8 A at 12 V and 0.4 A at 24 V, with 10 W maximum nominal consumption. The 12 W figure in the adjacent table column is a power-supply sizing allowance that includes reserve; it is not the light’s specified battery load. The catalog’s 0.8 A planning value is for nominal 12 V operation.

Fuse each light and seal every joint

For this single-colour version, connect red to switched positive and black to negative. Fit the specified 1.25 A fuse for each light; do not replace several individual fuses with one oversized branch fuse. Select the common supply and switch/relay for the combined load and route length using the manual’s cable tables. Keep the supplied cable and all joins supported and watertight, with the seal enclosing the outer sheath. Bare cable ends must never be left in bilge water, even while installation is unfinished.

Prepare the underwater mounting surface

Use a clean flat mounting surface and follow the hull-material instructions, including the appropriate isolation arrangement for conductive hulls. The manual illustrates mounting with the top of the light approximately 4–8 inches below the waterline and typical 2–3 foot spacing. Drill and seal the cable penetration as specified. Apply an unbroken marine-sealant barrier around the light and cable entrance; tighten the mounting screws by hand as directed rather than crushing the fitting with power tools.

Test before launching and inspect afterwards

Check polarity, individual fuses and switching before entering the water. Disconnect power before connecting or disconnecting light wiring. After launching, inspect the penetration and surrounding area immediately for leaks and repeat checks rather than leaving a new installation unattended. Keep the lens clean using the permitted methods; abrasive cleaning can damage its coating. Uneven apparent brightness can also result from depth, water clarity and bottom reflection, so verify wiring and mounting conditions before assuming the LED unit has failed.

Manual and scope

OceanLED installation manual, MAN-000045 Rev 1; p. 4 consumption/fuse table, pp. 5–10 placement and mounting, single-colour wiring p. 11, cable tables pp. 23–26. The original PDF is retained in the marine source ledger. The drawing represents the identified electrical interfaces; it does not simulate the equipment’s mechanical performance, radio signals or fluid system. Unpublished connector ampacity and startup current remain unspecified.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add X4 012301W to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 20 ft total of 16 AWG (1.5 mm²) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 16 AWG cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 1.25 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
