Which step and what does the symbol represent?
This entry is the Thule Slide-Out Step G2 400, article 301838, within the 301838–301840 installation manual. The diagram represents the 12 V feed to the step and its reversing switch as an assembly. The motor's two leads do not have permanent battery-positive and battery-negative roles: reversing their polarity changes travel direction. Do not attach the catalog's simple supply pair directly to the motor as a complete control system.
What protection and control wiring are required?
The basic wiring drawing, page 9, places a 20 A fuse ahead of switch S1. The motor and the deployed-position warning switch are separate circuits. Follow the actual switch pinout and the illustrated warning connection; an unlit dashboard warning is not proof that the step is physically retracted.
The optional automatic-retraction circuit, page 10, uses relay accessory 308200, shows 2.5 mm² wiring and retains 20 A protection. It is a separate installation option with additional control connections. The catalog does not invent that harness or simulate ignition-triggered retraction.
Why is the current estimate blank?
The reviewed manual publishes the fuse value but not motor running, startup or stall current. Those values are therefore absent from the catalog. Its 20 A terminal boundary is a protected-feed planning allowance, not a claim of 20 A continuous consumption or a measured connector capacity. Final cable design needs the route, supplied harness requirements and verified motor demand; a daily energy figure cannot be established from the fuse alone.
What should commissioning and use include?
Use the bracket, vehicle-attachment and clearance drawings before drilling. Check that the step can extend and retract without contacting the body or trapping its cable. The direction checks, pages 8–11, use brief 2–3 second operations to confirm travel and control behavior. Keep people and objects out of the mechanism during these checks. Test the warning indication and any installed automatic retraction, then physically confirm the step is retracted before driving. If it jams or repeatedly opens the fuse, isolate and inspect the mechanism and wiring; increasing the fuse rating defeats the specified protection.

Catalog specification
12 V entry-step assembly. This symbol represents the supply before its reversing switch, not fixed-polarity motor leads. Thule specifies 20 A circuit protection; running and stall current are unpublished. The 20 A terminal value is a protected-feed planning boundary. Deploy warning and optional ignition retraction require the actual control wiring.
