Whale Universal Pump wiring diagram
Whale Universal pressure-pump family; exact UF model is unspecified. The manual requires the motor-label fuse, positive isolation switch and inlet strainer. Modeled current and daily runtime are estimates until the installed pump is identified.
- Compatible systems
- 12 V
- Continuous draw
- 6 A

Cable sizing for this example
Use the diagram as a starting point for your installation. Replace the example equipment and cable lengths with your own, and check the connections against your exact model's instructions.
3 m one way
12 V system
- Wire
- 2.5 mm² · 13 AWG
- Example fuse
- 7.5 A
- Design current
- 6 A
- Voltage drop
- 2.1%
Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.
Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 2.5 mm² (13 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 2.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 7.5 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Universal family, exact SKU still needed
The catalog identifies the Whale Universal Freshwater Pressure Pump family but gives no UF part number, pressure setting or voltage suffix. The official installation manual covers the range. Its instructions are useful, but a family note cannot certify the catalog’s approximate 4–6 A range, 8–12 L/min description or a specific fuse value for the pump on your boat.
Power wiring and switching
Connect the red wire to `+` and black to `−`. Whale calls for the fuse specified on the motor label, a suitably rated isolating switch in the positive supply, and recommends 2.5 mm² cable. That recommendation does not remove the need to check voltage drop over the actual route. The illustrated optional white signal wire is not represented by the two power ports and is not a second motor-current connection.
Mounting and plumbing
Mount in a dry, ventilated location no more than 3 m from the tank, with the pump head preferably below motor level. Fit the supplied inlet strainer and follow the flow arrow. The manual prohibits pipe sealant or sealing tape on the threaded adapters because debris can enter the pump. Keep access for cleaning the strainer and servicing the head.
Operation and model limits
Switch off when the boat is unattended or the water tank is empty. If the pump cycles with all taps closed, check leaks and connections; if it runs without delivering water, check the tank, strainer and suction-side air leaks. Drain the system before freezing conditions. The drawing omits plumbing, pressure-switch action and the optional signal wire. Enter the actual motor-label current and measured duty time before using it for a final energy budget.
