Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Complete SG8284 kit supply only. Keep its IC sensor connected; white optional indicator/override must follow the manual and is not a generic DC load port. Manufacturer installation manual

Use the complete IC system

SG8284 combines the 12 V Gulper IC BP2082B pump with a Gulley IC sensor and 4 m connection cable. It is not interchangeable with an ordinary Gulper 220 or 320 merely because those pumps look similar. The IC sensor starts the pump after water detection and the control provides a short run-on after draining. Use compatible Whale IC accessories and sealed factory connectors.

Map the three conductors correctly

Connect red to protected positive and black to DC negative. The 12 V range is 10–13.6 V; retain the specified 10 A automotive fuse and use at least 1.5 mm² cable, increasing it for the route and voltage drop. The performance table gives 7.5–8 A at its stated heads; the catalog uses 8 A for that operating envelope and leaves startup current unknown. White is a combined running-indicator/manual-override interface: the diagram connects an indicator from white to negative or a momentary override from protected positive to white. It is not a load supply output with a published amp rating.

Route water and sensor connections together

Put the gulley sensor at the shower outlet and connect its sealed Deutsch plug to the pump’s IC cable. Place the non-submersible pump dry and above standing bilge water. If mounted vertically, the head goes below the motor. Follow the 19/25 mm hose arrangement and avoid restrictions, kinks and unsupported joints. The listed maxima are 3 m suction, 3 m discharge and 4 m combined lift; do not add the first two into a supposed 6 m total.

Check automatic drainage and the run-on

Apply water at the gulley and observe the approximately one-second start delay. Confirm complete drainage and the approximately nine-second overrun, then check that the pump stops without repeated cycling. If fitted, test the optional indicator and momentary override separately. Persistent running calls for inspecting the sensor, trapped water and wiring. Isolate the circuit before disconnecting connectors or servicing the diaphragm. The standard example shows the supply to a complete kit; the signal markers do not reproduce its automatic timing.

Manual and scope

The original PDF is retained in the marine source ledger. The drawing represents the identified electrical interfaces; it does not simulate the equipment’s mechanical performance, radio signals or fluid system. Unpublished connector ampacity and startup current remain unspecified.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add SG8284 / BP2082B to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 2 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 10 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11. Boats built to UK or EU rules answer to ISO 13297 — check these figures against it before you build. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
