Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

The example covers only the 12 V battery connection for standard model 818-3010. It uses the manual's 4/0 AWG minimum (120 mm² in this catalog), a 350 A Class T fuse and 1.4 m conductors each way, below the manual's 1.5 m limit. The 304 A value is published nominal full-load DC input. Verify actual battery/BMS capability and the complete AC, grounding, transfer and installation requirements separately. Which Freedom model is covered?

This entry is the standard Freedom XC PRO 3000, 818-3010, with 12 V battery input, 3000 W continuous AC output and 150 A charging. The Rev G specifications publish 304 A nominal DC input at full inverter load. Marine variants and the non-PRO Freedom XC must not inherit this model’s details indiscriminately.

What are the DC installation requirements?

Printed page 21 calls for 4/0 AWG, each one-way battery cable under 1.5 m / 5 ft, and a 350 A maximum battery fuse. Use a correctly rated battery disconnect and fuse close to the positive source. DC stud torque is 8–10 Nm; the chassis grounding lug has its own lower 2.6 Nm requirement.

How does the AC side work?

Separate AC IN from AC OUT; never backfeed the output from another source. The transfer relay is rated 50 A with 40 A continuous service. AC neutral/earth switching and GFCI compatibility must follow the manual’s application diagram. The 3000 W inverter rating does not mean its DC terminals carry 25 A: that figure belongs to 120 V AC output.

What must be commissioned?

Set battery chemistry, charging current, low-battery behavior and available AC input current. Confirm the battery/BMS can support inverter demand and accept charging. Test both shore-powered charging and loss-of-shore transfer with a suitable load. Preserve ventilation and use the additional drip-protection installation requirements when fitting the standard model in a marine application.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add Freedom XC PRO 3000 (818-3010) to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 9.2 ft total of 4/0 AWG (120 mm²) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 4/0 AWG cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 350 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
