The original 701-MD switches a battery's main positive conductor and is rated 275 A continuous. Its 455 A intermittent and 1,250 A cranking figures do not have usable time windows in this source, so they are not continuous design limits. This record is the standard 701-MD, not the voltage-sensitive MDVS or other remote-control variants. Remote operation requires the manual knob in the Auto Off position. See ratings, PDF p. 2.
Connect battery positive to the stud marked INPUT and the protected load circuit to OUTPUT. Although the contact carries current in either direction, the powered actuator arrangement depends on correct input orientation. Both large studs are 10 mm. Provide strain relief; the manual recommends 50 mm² cable and allows 70 mm² only as an absolute maximum with appropriate support. Choose the main fuse for the conductor and actual downstream duty, not automatically at 275 A.
The Deutsch drawing identifies pin 1 red as the LED output, pin 2 green as the switch command, and pin 3 black as control negative. The remote switch grounds the green command; the red lead drives the indicator shown. Take the black negative from the same battery that this switch isolates, with only one negative supply to each unit. Mixing banks here can cause erratic operation. First check that manual On and Off operate the main circuit. In Auto Off, exercise the remote switch and compare the indicator with continuity or load voltage. Automatic operation needs 8–30 V; a rapid status indication can point to supply outside that range. Off-state standby draw is documented as 15 mA, not zero, so include it when evaluating long storage. A manual override changes the contact state independently of the remote command.
