Match the insert, housing and hull

DST810 measures depth, speed through the water, temperature and attitude, with CAST Bluetooth calibration. This walkthrough follows the retained DST800/DST810 Rev 16 instructions and the DST810 product specification; check the cable tag and supplied instructions for later Gen2 hardware. The retained Gen2 brochure, revision I dated February 11 2026, supplies the electrical specification. Plastic housings suit fiberglass or metal hulls, not wood. Bronze must not be installed in a metal hull. Stainless installations in metal need the specified isolation arrangement.

Use a powered network, not the acoustic rating

The manufacturer lists 9–16 V through NMEA 2000 and LEN 3. Include that allocation in the backbone design. The product’s acoustic rating is not a continuous battery load. The retained 2026 brochure separately reports supply current below 200 mA and LEN 3; keep both published values visible when checking the actual network budget rather than deriving current from acoustic watts. The sensor symbol has one signal connector marker; the planner does not simulate NMEA network power. Keep the factory connector, protect cable routing and separate it from sources of electrical interference.

Prepare for a watertight removable insert

Choose smooth water flow with an unobstructed beam and room inside to remove the insert; the manual calls for 280 mm clearance. Point the insert’s arrow toward the bow. The housing valve only slows water ingress during removal: always install the sensor or blanking plug completely. Use intact lubricated O-rings of the correct type and fit the safety wire. Do not substitute a plug or O-ring by appearance; valved and non-valved housings differ.

Pretest, launch-check and calibrate

Before cutting the hull, connect to the instrument, spin the paddlewheel and check speed plus plausible air temperature. After launching, inspect immediately for leaks and follow the manual’s repeated checks; never leave an unverified new through-hull unattended. Use CAST to set depth offset and calibrate speed, temperature and attitude against appropriate references. Speed over ground includes current and is not automatically the same as speed through water. Clean fouling with suitable methods and keep the paddlewheel free; pressure washing can damage the assembly.

The drawing represents the identified electrical interfaces; it does not simulate the equipment’s mechanical performance, radio signals or fluid system. Unpublished connector ampacity and startup current remain unspecified.

Catalog specification

Through-hull retractable depth/speed/temperature/attitude sensor powered by NMEA 2000. Manufacturer specifications give 9–16 V and LEN 3; acoustic power is not battery draw. The water valve does not form a watertight closure without the insert or blanking plug.
