Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

No numeric fuse or extension gauge published: protect the actual cable, use extension at least the supplied lead cross-section, total cable length no more than 3 m. Example source fuse is a planning choice. This 2019 revision is not for continuous operation and must recalibrate after switching on. Manufacturer installation manual

Which alarm and gas coverage are documented?

This entry is Linnepe TriGasAlarm 303405 from the 2019 instructions. The manual describes detection of LPG and certain gases within its stated scope; it does not establish certification as a carbon-monoxide detector. Do not use this entry as evidence that a separate CO alarm is unnecessary. The technical data, PDF page 2, specify 9–16 V and 95–160 mA; the catalog uses 0.16 A as the upper published draw.

Where is it mounted and wired?

Connect red to positive and black to negative. The English installation section, PDF page 8, locates the alarm approximately 10 cm above the floor and calls for cable extensions of the same or greater cross-section as the supplied lead, with total length no more than 3 m. Keep the sensor exposed to cabin air rather than burying it behind furniture. A second sensor, where fitted, follows its own high-level mounting instructions.

What supply protection is established?

The reviewed instructions do not give a numeric branch-fuse value or an independent terminal ampacity. Protect the cable at its source according to the actual wire and installation; do not interpret the 160 mA consumption as a fuse prescription. The detail-page supply example remains a planning example, and the supplied lead must not be replaced with a smaller extension.

Is this a continuously operating detector?

This revision explicitly says that it is not designed for continuous operation. Follow its switch-on-before-sleep and switch-off-after-use instruction. On startup, wait until calibration completes and the indicator reaches its ready state before relying on the alarm. Power interruptions restart that process, so an unannounced switched feed changes when detection is available.

How is it tested and maintained?

Follow the manufacturer's functional-test method in the English operating section, PDF pages 10–11, keeping flame away from the sensor and cabin gas systems. Confirm the audible and visual alarm and its recovery. Repeated unexplained alerts call for ventilation and investigation under the manual's response procedure, not silencing the unit permanently. Keep the sensor clean and unobstructed, and verify readiness after each power cycle.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add TriGasAlarm 303405 to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.6 ft total of 16 AWG (1.5 mm²) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 16 AWG cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 1 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
