Connection and installation overview

Reversing actuator harnesses and assembly-dependent unpublished current require a specific trim-tab design; the 20 A fuse is not load demand.

Define the complete trim-tab assembly

BRC4000 is the basic rocker control for Bennett BOLT electric trim tabs. This record covers a 12 V system with one actuator per tab and the compatible wiring harnesses. It does not represent hydraulic Bennett pumps, a dual-actuator arrangement, the separate BCI indication controller or an AutoTrim Pro installation. The manual’s 20 A requirement describes the protected supply capability, not a measured continuously operating load, so no ampDraw is invented.

Wire the rocker supply and matched harnesses

Connect orange to 12 V positive through the specified 20 A fuse and black to the negative return. Join the labeled port and starboard harnesses as shown: red marking identifies port and green marking starboard. The motor drive changes direction, so neither conductor of an actuator pair can be modeled as a permanently positive or negative distribution output. The catalog therefore keeps the two actuator harnesses as connector markers without fabricated DC continuity.

Mount the control and verify mechanical travel

Use the BRC4000 mounting template and the specified 2.5-inch hole, leaving room behind the panel for the harness. Support the cable so it cannot pull on the control. Follow the BOLT actuator and tab placement, fastener and sealing instructions for the actual hull rather than choosing position from an electrical diagram. Check clear travel and sound mounting; do not use the tabs as a lifting or boarding support.

Test helm commands at the tabs before sea trials

With the boat secured and people clear, operate each rocker direction briefly while an observer checks the actual tab response against the manual’s bow-control diagram. Confirm both actuators run and stop and that port/starboard harnesses are not crossed. Inspect supply voltage during movement if response is slow or intermittent. On the water, use small trim adjustments and observe the boat response. This page stays an overview because reversing actuator wiring and actual current must be verified for the installed tab system.

The drawing represents the identified electrical interfaces; it does not simulate the equipment’s mechanical performance, radio signals or fluid system. Unpublished connector ampacity and startup current remain unspecified.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add BRC4000 to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. A lug or terminal to match each post on the part
  2. Strain relief and boots so nothing chafes or shorts
  3. Cable and fuses sized once the whole system is drawn

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11 — the US reference, and what Transport Canada accepts as an alternative to TP 1332 for pleasure craft under 24 m. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
