Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.
Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 2.5 mm² (13 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 2.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 10 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Verified against the manufacturer's documentation (rev. IC-M510/M510E ENG IM 3, original model), checked 2026-10-22. Manufacturer documentation →
What should I bear in mind with the IC-M510E?
This is the original model. Its 10.8–15.6 V input supports a 12 V bank. Crimp uses the 5 A maximum transmit draw, not an average listening load. The supplied DC cable contains a 10 A fuse; retain it. See manual pp. 96 and 105.
What do owners and installers say about the IC-M510E?
An owner discussion describes using a smartphone as a wireless handset. This is anecdotal experience, not installation guidance.
How do I connect the IC-M510E power and ground?
Use red positive and black negative. The separate ground terminal does not replace the DC return. Follow the waterproofing instructions on pp. 97–98.
Does the IC-M510E connect directly to NMEA 2000?
No: Icom specifies the optional CT-M500 interface for NMEA 2000 and hailer functions. The original radio has NMEA 0183 input and output pairs. Keep data, speaker, microphone and antenna connections separate from DC power.
Which IC-M510E antenna connections are shown?
VHF and optional external GPS have separate terminals. Never transmit without a suitable VHF antenna. Signal markers do not simulate radio or audio behaviour; see manual pp. 97–98.
