A marine-data router, not an internet modem

YDNR-02N shares NMEA 2000, two NMEA 0183 ports and SeaTalk data with Wi-Fi applications. Its built-in Web Gauges work without an internet connection. The unit draws power from NMEA 2000, specified at 7–17 V and at most 60 mA with the 0183 ports loaded; its declared network allocation is LEN 2. The drop cable is not included. Reserve its demand in the independently protected backbone budget.

Keep SeaTalk power out of the data terminal

Connect the SeaTalk yellow data conductor to SeaTalk and its ground/shield to GND. The SeaTalk red supply conductor is not connected to this router and must be insulated. For each 0183 port, connect router RX to the source TX and router TX to the destination RX using the manual’s differential or single-ended diagram. Do not ground a differential TX− output merely because it is labeled minus. The symbol’s ports are data markers, not buses.

Place it where radio and wiring can work

Mount in a dry protected location; the manual warns against flooding, rain and spray. Keep the antenna accessible and test wireless coverage before final mounting. Metal structures can greatly reduce the useful range even if the equipment is close in straight-line distance. Turn off backbone power before attaching the network connector, and retain proper network termination.

Configure a controlled data route

Factory port settings distinguish low-speed 4800-baud instrument traffic from 38400-baud AIS traffic. Match the connected devices rather than blindly copying the other port. Set the required TCP/UDP server protocol and use filters to avoid routing the same messages around a loop. Verify data in Web Gauges or a diagnostic application, then test the intended navigation application. If a client has Wi-Fi but no instrument values, inspect network power, source traffic, port baud and routing before resetting all settings.

The original PDF is retained in the marine source ledger. The drawing represents the identified electrical interfaces; it does not simulate the equipment’s mechanical performance, radio signals or fluid system. Unpublished connector ampacity and startup current remain unspecified.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add YDNR-02N to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. A lug or terminal to match each post on the part
  2. Strain relief and boots so nothing chafes or shorts
  3. Cable and fuses sized once the whole system is drawn

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11. Boats built to UK or EU rules answer to ISO 13297 — check these figures against it before you build. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
