Generator and converter are one installation

This entry combines the H-300-03 Cruising 300 hydrogenerator with its required CV-03 converter, configured for 12 V batteries. The generator's 300 W nameplate and the converter's 600 W / 44 A capacity describe different parts. Water speed and propeller conditions determine generation; the planner does not report 44 A as the output of this 300 W turbine. See 300 W and converter specifications, PDF p. 22 (printed p. 56).

Three-phase input and isolated bank outputs

The generator connects to the converter through its three-phase cable. For runs under 10 m the manual calls for 3 × 1.5 mm², increasing to 3 × 2.5 mm² for longer runs. Follow the connector drawing: the indicated GND position on the green generator connector is not used. The battery-side drawing provides two isolated positive outputs and one common battery-negative connection; connected banks must have matching voltage and battery type. See generator cable, PDF p. 14 and battery outputs, PDF p. 16.

Battery protection and cable

Protect each connected bank with a 50 A fuse and use the prescribed 10 mm² battery positive and negative conductors, locating the converter within 2 m of the batteries. These requirements reflect the converter installation; a smaller apparent generator output does not justify silently substituting another fuse. Mount the converter dry with the manual's cooling clearance and accessible connections.

Configure and commission on the boat

Check the configured charge voltages against the batteries before deployment, especially for lithium and its BMS disconnect behavior. Verify the mechanically secure mount and unobstructed deployment/retrieval before testing in water. Measure charging at known boat speeds; lifting the generator removes its water input. The optional solar input is limited to 50 V and 14 A, and hydro has priority, so its capacity cannot simply be added to hydro generation. The manual's operating and charge-configuration instructions begin at operation, PDF p. 18.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add Cruising 300 H-300-03 + CV-03 to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. A lug or terminal to match each post on the part
  2. Strain relief and boots so nothing chafes or shorts
  3. Cable and fuses sized once the whole system is drawn

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11. Boats built to UK or EU rules answer to ISO 13297 — check these figures against it before you build. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
