Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

The E70636 chartplotter-only example uses the specified 7 A fuse and 8.95 W maximum consumption at 12 V. This model accepts 8–16 V, so do not connect a 24 V bank. RealVision variants have different power figures. Network, transducer and data connections are separate from this DC supply example. Manufacturer installation manual

The chartplotter-only Axiom+ 9

E70636 identifies the 9-inch Axiom+ chartplotter model. The RV version is a different part with different power use and sonar connections. Adding this entry does not imply that a transducer or sonar processor is included. Its own GPS, charts and network data provide the navigation display functions supported by the installed software and accessories.

Use a 12 V supply

Axiom+ 9 takes 12 V nominal, with an 8–16 V input range. It is not a direct 24 V load. On a 24 V vessel, use a correctly sized converter and its required protection. The installation manual specifies a 7 A inline fuse or 7 A thermal breaker for the display.

Connect the supplied cable's red positive and black negative, and terminate its drain conductor as instructed for the vessel's RF ground arrangement. Keep fuse access and cable support after mounting. The combined power/NMEA 2000 harness does not mean the network supplies the screen or that the screen supplies the backbone; both power arrangements need to be understood separately.

The exact chartplotter specification is 8.95 W maximum. The catalog's approximately 0.75 A is 8.95 W / 12 V, a nominal-voltage calculation. It is not the 11.98 W RV-with-transducer rating. Terminal limits are protection-based planning bounds, and no unverified startup current is assigned.

Check location before making a cutout

Temporarily test internal GPS reception at the chosen helm position. Check visibility from the normal operating position, rear ventilation, connector-bend space and compass clearance. Use the template for the exact mounting method and seal with the supplied mounting arrangement. A position that fits the glass may still make the power connector or memory-card access unusable.

Connect RayNet, NMEA 2000 and any other supported accessories only through their intended interfaces. Preserve the seals on unused connections and record which network device supplies each important navigation value.

First start and fault checks

Verify reliable startup, valid position/time, installed chart coverage and correct units. Review alarms and select the intended data sources before navigating. Test with the other high-current equipment operating: resets during a pump or starter event often expose supply voltage drop or a poor connection.

If the display starts but a sensor value is missing, inspect the sensor's own power, network termination, source selection and software compatibility. A larger display fuse will not fix a network fault. Keep a recoverable record of settings before software or system changes and follow the current operating manual for navigation functions.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add E70636 to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.1 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 7 A fuse and holder on the positive run

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11. Boats built to UK or EU rules answer to ISO 13297 — check these figures against it before you build. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
