Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Manual minimum 16 AWG stranded copper is rounded up to 1.5 mm² for this short example. Black is positive, white is DC return. Retain the 4 A SLOW-BLOW appliance fuse; its rating is not a source-cable fuse prescription. Manufacturer installation manual

Which fan and load are represented?

This entry is the Dometic FanTastic Vent 7350 with remote control and rain sensing. The specification table, page 8, lists 36 W and current below 3 A. The catalog uses 3 A as that published upper bound, not the draw at every selected speed. Do not substitute the wiring of a manually controlled roof vent.

Which wire is positive?

The electrical instructions, pages 10–11, require at least 16 AWG stranded copper and show black to positive, white to negative. White is the DC return here; it is not a mains neutral. The two catalog terminals represent those supply connections. Keep the return conductor with its positive feed when routing through the roof structure, and protect both against sharp edges.

What fuse does the appliance use?

The maintenance instructions, page 24, specify a 4 A slow-blow glass appliance fuse. Retain that exact type when replacing it. This fuse is separate from the protection at the source of an extended supply cable. The 4 A value is not an independently verified connector rating. A metric 1.5 mm² conductor is a conservative practical choice above the manual's 16 AWG minimum for the short page example; longer runs still need a voltage-drop check.

How do the automatic controls affect operation?

The 7350 remote sets fan operation, while the rain sensor can close the lid. Read the remote-control sequence on pages 18–19 before enabling rain override: that override changes automatic lid behaviour. Do not assume the sensor replaces checking that the lid is closed and the roof is ready for travel.

What should commissioning and maintenance include?

Test the fan over its available speeds, lid movement and the intended remote settings. Check the roof seal and the supply voltage under load. Isolate power before accessing the blade or changing the fuse. Clean the screen, blade and rain sensor using the manual's methods, and investigate repeated fuse failures rather than increasing the fuse rating.

Build it out

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Add FanTastic 7350 to your diagram, then connect your batteries, chargers and loads. Crimp calculates cable sizes and checks the connections as you draw.

Every cable you draw there is sized against ABYC E-11, from the same tables as the reference on this page.

  1. 2 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 5 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Method & provenance

Where the specifications and sizing come from.

Manufacturer specifications describe the equipment. Crimp calculates cable results from the circuit and assumptions you enter.

From the maker

What the catalog says

Manufacturer, model, ratings and which terminal does what come from the catalog. A newer revision, or the nameplate on the unit in your hand, can say something different — when it does, the nameplate wins.

ABYC E-11

What Crimp worked out

Sized against ABYC E-11. Boats built to UK or EU rules answer to ISO 13297 — check these figures against it before you build. The run length and the current above are what drive the result. Crimp doesn't know how warm your space gets; draw the cable inside an engine-bay zone on the canvas and it sizes for the heat.
