Connection essentials

  • Red +, black −

Use a protected DC supply. AC versions need their separate mains installation instructions.

  • Match fuse to voltage

    Dometic specifies 15 A at 12 V or 7.5 A at 24 V. Running current is lower.

  • Let warm air escape

Keep a lower air inlet and upper outlet, with the clearance shown in the cabinet drawing.

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

This 12 V example uses Dometic's 15 A supply protection and a short 1 m run with 6 mm² cable. Check the manual's voltage-specific cable graph for your route. At 24 V, the specified protection is 7.5 A. Running current and the fuse rating describe different things. Manufacturer installation manual

Supporting parts

  1. 2 m total of 6 mm² (10 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 6 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 15 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Which wires and fuse does it need?

Connect red to positive and black to negative. Dometic specifies a supply protected at 15 A for 12 V or 7.5 A for 24 V, which is different from running current. Use the voltage-specific cable-length graphs on pages 24–25, then check cable ampacity for the installation. The example retains the 12 V protection and uses a short 1 m supply run with 6 mm² cable. Recheck the graph for your actual route.

How much power does the CRX65 use?

The CRX65 column of the CoolMatic CRX manual rates the refrigerator at 5.5 A on 12 V or 2.8 A on 24 V. Check whether the appliance is a DC or ACDC version: mains connection details differ. The drawing represents the DC supply only. Compressor cycling depends on cabinet ventilation, temperature setting and food loading; daily hours are an energy-budget assumption, not a fixed manufacturer consumption guarantee.

Why does it stop when the battery still has charge?

At 12 V the internal monitor cuts out at 10.4 V and restarts at 11.7 V; at 24 V the thresholds are 22.8 V and 24.2 V. These are appliance thresholds, not preferred battery discharge targets. Check voltage at the refrigerator during compressor starting if it cuts out while the battery appears charged.

How much ventilation does it need?

Follow the cabinet diagram with lower cool-air entry, upper hot-air exit and approximately 50 mm rear clearance. Secure the unit and preserve its condenser ventilation and drainage.

What does the wiring example leave out?

Disconnect it before fast charging or work on the supply. The simple two-terminal model omits thermostat control, compressor start behavior, internal undervoltage logic and any AC rectifier. Do not size endurance from the full-load current multiplied by 24 hours unless intentionally testing continuous running.
