Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 7.5 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Which Zamp Solar Obsidian 100W is this?
This is the USM2004 rigid monocrystalline module, using Zamp's V4 datasheet. It is the individual roof-mount panel, not the similarly named folding portable kit or a complete panel-and-controller package. Zamp Solar is part of Dometic's mobile-power range.
The V4 module specifications give 100 W, 21.71 V Vmp, 4.59 A Imp, 26.15 V Voc and 4.82 A Isc. Vmp and Imp are the operating point used for this catalog entry; Voc is the separate open-circuit limit check. Other Obsidian listings quote different currents, so match the module label and document revision before combining panels.
The same sheet specifies 525 × 1108 × 17 mm, a dimensional tolerance of ±3 mm, and 4.89 kg. Its tempered glass and aluminum frame make this a rigid panel despite its thin profile.
How is the Zamp Solar Obsidian 100W wired?
Connect the canvas + and − terminals to the corresponding PV inputs of a suitable solar charge controller. They represent the two electrical poles of the panel's ATP Series connector, not two separate MC4 plugs. Use compatible ATP extensions or a correctly wired adapter for the actual controller and roof connector.
The battery connects to the controller's battery output, with battery-side overcurrent protection selected from that controller's manual and the installed conductors. A nominal 12 V solar panel must not be connected straight to a battery. Zamp's roof-mounted kit instructions illustrate separate panel and battery protection and connecting the battery before uncovering and connecting the panels; their kit-specific fuse and cable choices do not apply automatically to a different controller.
If adapting to an existing SAE port, verify polarity and trace where the port leads. Zamp's support guidance explains that its SAE positive pin is protected and that solar-ready RV wiring differs by manufacturer. A matching-looking plug does not establish polarity or prove a controller is already fitted.
What should I bear in mind with the Zamp Solar Obsidian 100W?
- Verify protection separately. The V4 datasheet describes fused wiring but does not state the installed fuse value, maximum series-fuse rating or harness current rating. Those remain unknown in this entry. Check the supplied fuse, label and manufacturer instructions before designing parallel strings; a fuse recommendation in the schematic does not verify the module's reverse-current protection.
- Check the whole PV voltage path. The module's published maximum system voltage is 300 VDC, which is not a controller-input rating. Series wiring also has to respect the controller, roof cap, connectors and protection equipment. The V4 sheet supplies no Voc temperature coefficient, so obtain the correct cold-weather voltage data before deciding string length. These missing ratings are not calculated from the module's wattage.
- Keep connector seals and cable entries intact. The V4 sheet gives IP67 only when the ATP plug is mated. The ATP roof-cap guide calls for boots on unused receptacles and protection against abrasion at roof penetrations. Use the mounting and weatherproofing instructions for the actual cap and roof.
- Plan roof access as well as panel placement. Use mounting hardware suited to the panel's Omni-Rail frame and the supporting structure. The roof-mounted kit guide requires covering panels during installation and avoiding shade from roof equipment. The schematic does not assess mounting loads, roof waterproofing, shading or ventilation.
What do owners and installers say about the Zamp Solar Obsidian 100W?
The available discussions emphasize roof fit and integration; they do not establish electrical ratings for this V4 module.
- In an Airstream roof-space discussion, one owner considered combining 100 W and 45 W Obsidian panels to fit a small trailer, while another raised access and panel-removal concerns. These are planning reports, not a verified mounting arrangement for your roof.
- In a Zamp solar pre-wire discussion, owners described uncertainty about existing roof connectors, adapters and series-versus-parallel wiring; one reported failure of an older roof-port assembly in a different-panel system. The thread does not identify a USM2004 V4 defect. Verify the installed connector and protection ratings instead of transferring another RV's wiring assumptions.
What belongs around the Zamp Solar Obsidian 100W?
Add a controller with suitable PV voltage and current limits, a charging profile matched to the battery, compatible ATP cabling, roof mounting hardware and the required PV and battery protection. The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 75/15 is one controller to evaluate for a small system; array size, minimum temperature and battery voltage still determine suitability.
Use the wire-size calculator for the installed run and review the complete schematic with both positive and negative connections. The Technical reference on this page is a planning example; it does not validate the unidentified panel fuse, ATP harness rating or existing RV wiring.
